ELLIS Unit Copenhagen

The ELLIS Unit Copenhagen is founded by researchers from University of Copenhagen (KU), the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and the IT University of Copenhagen (ITU) with the purpose of contributing to fulfilling the European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems (ELLIS) mission of:

Strengthening basic AI research in Europe and thereby contributing to creating job and economic growth in Europe.

The unit will take part in ELLIS activities - workshops, PhD and postdocs programs, research programs and innovation encourage collaboration between the three participating universities and organise local activities for MSc and PhD students, postdocs, researchers and industry in the greater Copenhagen area.

NeurIPS 2021 Meetup

This NeurIPS 2021 meetup takes place in Copenhagen aiming to act as the central meetup for this area. The meetup is will feature a collection of focused reading groups. PhD students within ELLIS Copenhagen may get ECTS credit for joining these reading groups. The meetup is organized by ELLIS Copenhagen. If the situation allows, the meetup will be physical with on-ground activities.

ELLIS NLP Fellow Program

Isabelle Augenstein and Barbara Plank from the ELLIS CPH unit are part of ELLIS’ new Natural Language Processing (NLP) fellow program. The goal of this fellow program is to move the needle in modern AI, thus allowing Europe to shape the technological and social AI revolution in specific fields, by facilitating collaborations across the leading European NLP labs.

Official launch of ELLIS Units

The European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems (ELLIS) is officially launching its 30 ELLIS research units on Tuesday, September 15. Since the first 17 units were announced in December 2019, the ELLIS initiative has gained significant momentum, adding another 13 units at top research institutions across Europe. To highlight this rapid progress toward securing the future of European AI research, each unit will be presenting its research focus.

The AI seminar series highlights advances and challenges in research within Machine Learning, Data Science, and AI. Like the AI Centre itself, the seminar series will have a broad scope, covering both new methodological contributions, ground-breaking applications, and impacts on society.

Advanced Topics in Machine Learning: Machine Learning and Human Cognition

The course consists of five days of lectures and exercises. The lectures will cover theoretical aspects such as Bayesian optimization, active learning, causality and reinforcement learning as well as their connections to human cognition.

Generative Models and Uncertainty Quantification (GenU 2019)

Generative models and uncertainty quantification lie at the heart of Bayesian modelling and inference. At this small meeting, we discuss recent developments within the field. The meeting is deliberately kept small in order to ensure that discussion remains honest, lively and interesting.
